The first of a few bills is open for public comment on Tuesday in Connecticut. The hearing was scheduled by the Public Health Committee. The Department of Consumer Protection would be tasked creating and overseeing the recreational marijuana policy in the state.
The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services would be tasked with creating and implementing a taxation system, according to NECN. If recreational marijuana legislation passes in Connecticut, it would allow those ages 21 and older to purchase and grow marijuana. Both Democrats and Republicans have submitted bills for consideration of legalizing recreational marijuana.
The sponsor of the bill open for public discussion is co-sponsored by Republican Representative Melissa Ziobron. One of the reasons for the hearing is to “promote a healthy and substantive discussion” regarding recreational marijuana.
